Meru-Usa Nature Forest Reserves

“A paradise of Arusha” 

The forest oers diverse leisure and adventure experiences due to the co-existence of forest plantation and montane natural forest. The forest with total area of 8,170 ha, is located on the slopes of Mount Meru, the third highest mountain in Sub Saharan Africa. 

TOURIST  ATTRACTIONS 

The forest is endowed with tourist attractions including stunning single drop waterfall with 78 meters height, Sambasha hill, scenic areas with panoramic view points, olive baboons,   black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, more than 300 variety of birds, valleys with steep slopes, flowers, berries forming shadowy green montane forest that leads to the gorges,   culture and traditions of local communities.

ECOTOURISM  ACTIVITIES

Key ecotourism activities include trekking, cold swimming at Napuru (Themi) waterfalls, forest silent walks & meditation, hiking to panoramic view of Mt.Meru & Arusha City, bird-watching, mountain cycling, Sambasha hill hiking, Apitourism, picnicking, camping, photographing, acclimatization programme, local cuisine food cooking experience, cultural and traditional    experience of the Wameru and Masaai tribes.

Other tourist attractions near the forest are Lake Duluti Forest Reserve, Arusha National Park, Mererani Tanzanite Mining Site, Cultural Tourism Enterprises in Arumeru and Arusha  International Conference Centre. 

ACCESSIBILITY 

The way to Napuru waterfall is through Sekei road (7km), branching off Moshi-Arusha near Philips junction.                                                                                

ACCOMMODATION                                                                                     

The site offers opportunity for camping. Other accommodations are found in Arusha city.
