Seed Biology

This part consists of in-depth details about the structure, development, and functions of seeds.

The agency has proper and well-established seed production operations and documentation in-house standards from seed sources, seed collection, processing, testing, and distribution.

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) involved in herbs, tree, and shrub seed testing and certification of both indigenous and exotics locally available and that coming outside of Tanzania.

The main objective is to serve quality products, which are seeds and seedlings to our customers, the consumer, and the tree seed industry.

TFS does the following to minimize the risks of planting low-quality seeds;

●  We test the cleanliness and moisture of the seed lot

● The agency tests for viability, germination, and vigor.

●  We test seed health and diseases.

●  We identify the quality problem and its probable cause.

●  We assess seed storage behavior and determine the need for drying and processing and specific procedures that should be used.

●  We determine if the seed meets established quality standards or labeling specifications.

● We also establish quality management procedures and control and provide a basis for price and consumer discrimination among lots in the market
