Rondo Forest plantation is located on part of the Rondo (Mwera) plateau in Lindi region at elevation of about around 870 m a.s.l. It lies between Latitude 10°4’S and 10°14’S, Longitude 39°8’E and 39°15’E.

The plantation receives a single rain season from November to May with an average annual rainfall of 1100mm. Temperatures vary between 32°C and 11°C with the coolest period between June and August.

Rondo Plantation Forest can be accessed by two routes. The first route which is the shortest is from Lindi to Ngongo village (16 km) where the road branches from the Lindi – Mtwara highway to Rondo. This route covers a total distance of 60 km towards West of Lindi. The second route is through all-weather tarmac road from Lindi – Masasi to Nyengedi (55 km), then proceed 25 km earth road. This route covers a total of 80 km.

Rondo Forest Reserve was originally gazetted by the Germans in 1909, and later finalized through Government Notice No.354 of 1959 as shown on the Map JB 464 due to Variation Order 354/20/11 of 1959.

The main objectives of establishing Rondo plantation are to ensure sustainable supply of quality forest and bee products and enhancing stable ecosystem and biological diversity.

The plantation comprises exotic and indigenous tree species. In total the plantation covers 2979.1 ha. The areas coverage by species are Pinus caribaea (576.5 ha), Tectona grandis (218 ha), Milicia excelsa (279.2 ha) and the remaining area is covered by natural forests.

Rondo forest plantation sits on a plateau that has risen sharply from sea level to about 885M and therefore enjoys a unique microclimate.
The Plantation is also part of Coastal Forest mosaic of Eastern Africa; an area of major conservation importance in Africa. Rondo reserve is a home of at least 60 strict endemic plant species, diverse mammals, reptiles and amphibians, birds, butterflies, millipede and mollusks. Furthermore most of the major rivers supplying water to Lindi District originate at the base of the Rondo,
