Morogoro

Morogoro Forest Plantation is established on the Morogoro Forest Reserve, which was declared to be a Forest Reserve through the Government Notice No.204 of 17 July, 1953, covering a total area of 12,950 ha. Morogoro Forest Plantation was established in 2015, with objectives of supplying of raw materials for energy, poles, and sawn wood. others are restoring and conserving natural vegetation and biodiversity, and promoting and supporting sustainable forestry in surrounding communities.

The plantation is located in Morogoro Municipal, about 10 km from Municipal centre, along Morogoro -Dodoma highway

Forest resources that are found in the plantation include both natural and plantation forests. The indigenous trees species that are found in the this plantation are mainly of Miombo woodlands, including Sclerocarya birrea, Afzelia quanzensis, Balanite aegyptiaca, Dichrostachys cinerea, Dalbergia melanoxylon, Acacia, Albizia, Kigelia africana, Acacia tortilis, Bridellia spp.,Tamarindus indica and Sterculia appendiculata.

To date, the forest plantation covers a total of 97 ha, whereby 47 ha was planted in 2016 and the remaining 50 ha in, 2017. Tree species planted include Coryimbia citriodora, Gmelina arborea, Azidiratcha indica, Tectona grandis, Khaya anthotheca na Melicia excelsa.
