Lake Ngozi Nature Reserves

The reserve contains Lake Ngosi, the second largest Crater Lake in Africa and has the shape of African Continent. Mount Rungwe forms the highest peak in the Southern Highland of Tanzania   with altitude of 2,981m above sea level. A newly discovered monkey species namely Rungwe Cebus kipunji is also endemic to Mt. Rungwe. The reserve is situated in Rungwe and Mbeya districts, and it covers an area of 24,680 ha.

TOURIST  ATTRACTIONS

Besides Lake Ngosi, Rungwe peak and Kipunji, other tourist attractions are; Lusiba crater lakes, ritual sites (Masieto), black and white colobus monkeys, bamboo belt; the flowing rivers   of Kiwira, Kibisi and the spectacular view of the rift valley.

ECOTOURISM  ACTIVITIES 
The reserve offers numerous activities such as bird watching, trekking, photographing, camping, picnicking, nature viewing and meditation, cultural and traditional activities.

ACCESSIBILITY 
Visitors from  Dar es salaam   may take a domestic flight to Songwe International Airport, travel by road on Tanzania-Zambia highway to Mbeya about 815 km or take TAZARA train to Mbeya City. From Mbeya to the reserve there it is about 22km via Iduda and 33km via Mchangani.

Other tourist attractions near the reserve are; Mbeya peak, Kitulo National Park, Malasusa and Kapologwe waterfalls, God’s bridge, Kijungu, Kisiba crater lake, Matema Beach, Mbozi   Meteorite and Mpanga Kipengele Game Reserve

ACCOMMODATION 
The place has several sites suitable for camping whereas other accommodation facilities are available at Tukuyu Township and Mbeya City.
