Amani Nature Forest Reserves

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

The reserve is gifted with varieties of touristic attractions with unique biodiversity, natural, historical and cultural values. These include: Saintpaulia flower which is believed to have power of forgiveness, three horned chameleon, 340 bird species, butterflies, amazing waterfalls, viewpoints for sunrise and sunset, remnants of railway and steam engines used during the colonial era, the oldest botanical garden in East Africa with more than 1000 plant species from all over the globe, traditional cuisine and dances, tea plantations and spice farms.

 

ECOTOURISM ACTIVITIES

These include: nature viewing, bird watching, night walking safaris, picnicking and camping, sun downing, mountain biking, swimming in the plunge pools of waterfalls, hiking, cultural activities (local dancing, traditional massage, traditional cuisine, local brew tasting, spice farm tour, butterfly farming tour) research and educational tour, excursion and photographing.

 

ACCESSIBILITY

The reserve can be accessed by road from Dar 330 or from Moshi 356km. Alternatively, tourists can opt to take a domestic flight to Tanga Airport then proceed by road via Muheza about 74 km.

 

NEARBY TOURIST ATTRACTIONS SITES

The nearest tourist destinations available are Magamba and Nilo Nature Forest Reserves, Tongoni Ruins, Saadani and Mkomazi National Parks, Amboni Caves, Magoroto Forest.

 

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation facilities in the reserve are: three rest houses, one hostel. However, camping sites are available. Other accommodations are found at Muheza town and Tanga city.
