Korogwe Fuel Wood Forest Reserve was gazzeted in 1957 by Government  Notice No. 383  with 10,805 ha. The reserve was announced as Korogwe Forest Plantation in 2014. It is located in Handeni District in Tanga Region, approximately 40 km northeast of Handeni town and 20 km southwest of administrative centre of Korogwe district. It lies between 0410941 to 410943 and 0430941 to 430943. A number of commuters (locally known as daladala) carry out the way about an hour from Korogwe to Handeni town.

The forest plantation is accessible through Korogwe-Handeni main road which passes through the plantation. For easy management, the forest is divided into four ranges namely, Kwengoma, Kwamatuku, Sindeni and Mswaha.

Due to degradation of this forest reserve, the government decided to establish a forest plantation for the purpose of supplying raw materials to wood based industries, transmission poles, fuel wood and conserving the remaining fragile natural vegetation

The plantation is involved in establishing and managing of different tree species. To mention a few, includes Eucalyptus camadulensis, Eucalyptus tereticornis, Casuaria equsitefolia, Cedrella mexicana, Terminalia superba and Acrocarpus fraxinifolius for the production of timber, poles and logs. Also, Acacia mangium and Enterolobium cyclocarpum for firewood and charcoal. Moreover the forest has high species diversity of natural trees such Brachystegia speciformis, Microphylla spp, Combretum collinum, Pterocarpus angolensis, Dombeya rotundifolia, Dalbegia melanoxylon, Sterculia spp, Brachylaena huilensis and Julbernadia spp. The remaining natural forests support beekeeping activities.

Korogwe Forest Plantation is expecting to have reasonable standing volume from different tree species due to the planting activities. The existing trees are in age class of <5 years. Eucalyptus spp and Cedrela mexicana being the most dominating species by area about 50% and 34% respectively. The remaining area is covered by other species
